Al Jazeera’s Investigative Programmes: An Eye Opener
‘The Black Box’ series caused shockwaves, which can be easily gauged on social media platforms. Not only was our work picked up by other regional and international media outlets, but it was also responded to by government officials. With the 20th anniversary, Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit added new feathers to its cap by introducing new series, including ‘Tip of the Iceberg,’ ‘Ground Zero,’ and the ‘Detective.’ For an investigative piece of work to bear fruit, a number of key elements must be provided. Solid research, seeking refutable evidence and speaking to credible sources come on top. Another important factor is an able and innovative technical team who can use all conceivable tools to present the most complicated issues in a simple fashion. This includes filming, lighting, video editing, graphics and visual effects. I can proudly say that Al Jazeera’s investigative programmes have found the magic formula: purposeful content combined with invocative presentation of the case. By breaking many barriers, Al Jazeera investigative documentaries gave voice to victims, eyewitnesses, and survivors. Al Jazeera told the untold stories and gave voice to the unheard.
