E. M c C ully

Have you ever searched for a spe cial poem or illustration to read to a church group on one occasion or an other. The author has prepared an excellent compilation of such ma terial and put it into categories such as “Missionary,” “ Father’s Day,” “ Bridal Shower,” “ Baby Shower,” and many others. Some of the old favorites are included a l o n g with many new readings which will be particularly fitting. The author for merly had published a similar work, “ Twenty-five Inspiring Readings,” which has been a handy reference for those who plan programs. 118 pages, cloth; Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, $1.95. The Biblical Doctrine of Judgment by Leon Morris God is seen as the source of all judgment in the Old Testament (Deut. 1:17). It was never with the Hebrews a purely secular process. There are several kinds of justice. The righteous and the wicked are found in strong contrast. Judgment serves to create a ‘discrimination’ (Ex. 18:16). The Day of the Lord will be characterized by deliverance for Israel, but His judgment will fall on all mankind. The New Testament draws more distinctly the patterns of present and future judgment. Christ comes in for identification as the Judge. There is a majesty about the judgments of God, and an inclusiveness, inescapa- bility, and justice. God can be trusted in his judicial retribution. The stu dent of Biblical theology will appre ciate this succinct treatment. It is brief, and does not deal with re wards, as it might have, but it will be appreciated as a helpful survey. 72 pages; cloth; Wm. B. Eerdmans Pub. Co., Grand Rapids; $2.00. Time Out (Daily Devotions for Young People) by A l Bryant Coming in time for graduates, this handy volume contains a special de votional message for each day of the year. The author uses various trans lations (Berkeley, Amplified New Testament, King James) to draw at tention to short challenging thoughts. Frequently well known Christian leaders are quoted in the material presented. Making it practical for youth is the constant note of spiritual victory over temptations. Cloth; Zon dervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, $1.95.
