Owned by a joint venture between Dolben Company and Atapco Properties Verde at Howard Square named first LEED platinum certified apartment community in MD

LKRIDGE, MD — The Dolben Compa- ny, Inc. (“Dolben”) , and Atapco Properties (“Atapco”) , announced that Verde at Howard Square has been named Maryland’s first LEED Platinum-certified apartment community, es- tablished by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification In- stitute (GBCI) . LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high perfor- mance green buildings. Verde at Howard Square is located in Elkridge, Maryland, and is owned by Howard Square Residential Holdings LLC, a joint venture between Dolben and Atapco. Verde at Howard Square is part of Howard Square, a 47 acre mixed-use devel- opment located in Howard County, Maryland. The 299 unit apartment community is the first multifamily com- ponent designed and built for the development, with others to come. The project team has carefully designed the site to improve storm water management; StormTech technology captures, stores, and treats 100% of the water on the site. The building also generates over 15% of the to- tal power consumed through solar panels located on the building’s garage. “With each new LEED- certified building, we get one step closer to USGBC’s vision of a sustainable built environment within a gener- ation,” said Rick Fedrizzi , president, CEO & founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “As the newest member of the LEED family of green buildings, Verde at Howard Square is an impor- tant addition to the growing strength of the green build- ing movement.” Receiving 80 points out of 100, Verde at Howard Square achieved Platinum Certification through: • Realizing a 43% water reduction • Accomplishing 40% en- ergy savings • Diverting 91% of con- struction waste • Implementing a Green Cleaning program • Employing an Integrat- ed Pest Management pro- gram. n E
