EXPOSITION AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

The lessons of this quarter include some of thé most precious portions of the word of God and there are various ways in which the lessons may be reviewed, but the most profitable review for most classes will be found in grouping the various lessons around the Golden Text given above. In LESSON I (John 9:1-11, 35-38) the Deity of Jesus Christ comes out in His healing a man born blind and again in His declaring Himself to be the Light of the world (cf. I John 1:5). In LESSON II (John 11:17-27, 43, 44) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in His showing His power to raise the dead by His mere word. God alone can do that. In LESSON III (John 10:7-18) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in His claim ing to be the “Good Shepherd.” In LESSON IV (Joijn 12:1-11) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in His rais ing Lazarus from the dead. In LESSON V (John 12:12-19) we see that Jesus is the Christ the promised King of Israel. This is the very center of the whole lesson. In LESSON Vi (John 13:3-15) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in the asser tion of His pre-existence with the Father

and in the statement that the Father had given all things into His hand. In LESSON VII (John 15:1-13) the Deity of Jesus Christ appears in that He says that He Himself is the source of all light and it is only through being in Him that we can have light or fruitfulness. LESSON VIII (Isa. 28:1-13), does not properly belong to the lessons of the quar ter, and it would be better to omit it in the review. In UESSON IX (John 15:26, 27; 16:7- 14) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in His assertion of His pre-existence and in His statement that it is He who sends the Holy Spirit In LESSON X (John 18:1-11, 15-17) the Deity of Jesus Christ is seen in the fact that His very presence overpowered His enemies. In LESSON XI (John 19:16-22, 25-30) the truth that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God comes out in His fulfilling in detail so many of the Old Testament prophecies regarding the Christ. In LESSON XII (John 20:2-16) the Deity of Jesus Christ comes out in His resurrection, which was God the Father’s seal upon Jesus Christ’s claim to Deity.
