Stone Soup Summer 2025

Grati tude by Dave Cort, Community Ambassador The San Geronimo Valley Community Center has received so much positive feedback from posting the names of newborn children on our Readerboard. Under the heading of “With Joy” we share the names of babies who have recently been born in the Valley and Nicasio. When you know of a birth in the San Geronimo Valley or Nicasio please email me at dcort@sgvcc.org so I can include the name in my next Gratitude column and on our Readerboard. Congratulations to Mia Johnson and Jorge Martinez on the birth of their daughter, Juliet on March 27, 2025. Ani Steig, who grew up in Lagunitas and attended Lagunitas Community School, set the all time Drake/Archie Williams High School one mile record that had stood since 1982. Ani’s record time was 4 minutes, 58.3 seconds. The previous school record was 5:00.3 set by Katy Dykstra in 1982. Ani comes from quite an athletic family. I played Saturday morning basketball with Ani’s grandfather Rob Steig for years and her dad Brandon Steig was a champion snowboarder. Congratulations to Ani. Serenity Knolls has been an incredible partner of the Community Center as they have been hosting their alumni and resident AA meetings at the Center for decades. This past May, Serenity Knolls celebrated the 50th anniversary of their founding by Mike and Louise Neustadt. I attended the March Chip meeting where my close friends Catherine and Michael McQuilkin received their twenty one year chip. In the April 17, 2025 edition of the Point Reyes Light, the Lagunitas Community School eighth grade change projects were highlighted. Please take the time to read about these amazing projects that Katherine Sanford’s students accomplish throughout the school year. https://www.ptreyeslight. com/news/lagunitas-middle-schoolers-on-making-change/ Appreciations to Giaco’s Valley Roadhouse for hosting the incredibly fun “Howie’s Bday Bash” in April. A huge crowd attended and all proceeds raised that night supported the Community Center arts & events programs.
