LEADERSHIP Here’s the invitation – step up and accept
“Be courageous. Life is full of opportunities – you just have to take them.”
Canterbury entrepreneur and inventor Logan Williams, 25, wants future leaders to step up and not get “stuck down a career path”. “However, to think outside the box and do something different, you have to be courageous,” he says. Logan was a special guest at the College-organised Emerging Leaders Conference in June, delivering the keynote address to about 450 Year 12 Christchurch students eager to listen and learn. Following the Covid-19-enforced cancellation of the popular event last year, it proved to be the perfect opportunity to inspire future leaders from 28 schools across Canterbury. United under the theme “Courage is the key to great leadership”, the students packed into the Assembly Hall for an engrossing story of resilience under pressure before immersing themselves in leadership-focused workshops across College. From reframing a life story to enhancing your skills and developing your own leadership style, a range of inspiring presenters brought their own experience and effective approach into play – offering practical, personal and positive insight. The young man behind a plethora of innovative inventions believes that while “university can make good people great”, it is important to “keep your options open”.
