Rugby The 1st XV won a thrilling semi-final against top seed St Bede’s College, 26–23, and then waited six weeks to travel to Nelson to contest the Miles Toyota 1st XV final. In wonderful conditions at Trafalgar Park, College led at the half, 15–3, but Nelson proved once again to be a team which played well in the second half. For the second time this year, Nelson scored late in the game to take the match 22–20. While this was not the result the 1st XV team sought, the players could certainly be proud of the match played and were deserved finalists. It was a successful season, with the 1st XV defeating Otago Boys’ High School, 26–13, and Christchurch Boys’ High School, 35–34, in the annual matches. College also made the final of the Quad Tournament after defeating Wellington College, 28–23, but lost in the last minute of the game to a try to Nelson College. Hendrix Taylor was selected for the NZ Maori U18 squad. College also had players selected in the Junior Crusaders camp, with a team chosen to play the Highlanders U18 side, and a group of players selected for the two Canterbury U16 teams.
