November 12, 2021 TO: National Indian Gaming Association Board of Directors FR: Chairman Ernie Stevens Jr. Executive Director Jason Giles RE: Name Change Update and Next Steps
Dear Board of Directors: This is an update on the progress of changing the Association’s name. At the 2021 Tradeshow in Las Vegas, the Board approved a motion “To Change The Name of the National Indian Gaming Association.” It was clear to the Board that the Association’s name, and primarily the acronym, was in need of change. The Board requested the Chairman put together and chair a Name Change Sub-Committee. After discussion with the Name Change Sub-Committee, several alternatives were suggested from the Committee members themselves, as well as submissions from other Board members and interested members of the Indian Gaming Association. These alternatives are listed below:
1. SGA----Sovereign Gaming Association 2. TGA----Tribal Gaming Association
3. TLGA---Tribal Leaders Gaming Association 4. TIGA----Tribal Indian Gaming Association 5. GAIN----Gaming Association of Indian/Indigenous Nations 6. NAGA----Native American Gaming Association 7. SGNA----Sovereign Gaming Nations Association
This list is not meant to be exhaustive or definitive, but is a reflection of the input received during this process of changing the organization’s name. The Board has provided a deadline for the Name Change to be completed at 2022 Tradeshow in Anaheim. Jason Giles Executive Director
