PLUG TYPES AND CHARGING CABLES
Charging cables for charging electric Mode 2 charging cable
Mode 3 charging cable
Mode 2 charging cables, of which there are many different variants, are often supplied from the factory by the respective car manufacturer. Since these cables can be connected to an ordinary household socket, the driver of an electric vehicle is able to charge flexible and comfortable. The in-cable control box (ICCB) is connected between the vehicle plug and connector plug and acts as a communicator between the electric vehicle and the charging connector.
A Mode 3 charging cable is used to connect an electric vehicle to a char- ging station, allowing for charging power of up to 43 kW. In Europe, the Type 2 plug is the standard, so most charging stations are equipped with a Type 2 socket. This setup allows both Type 1 and Type 2 electric vehicles to be charged. To charge an electric car, the appropriate Mode 3 cable is required: Type 2 to Type 2 cable (e.g., for a Renault ZOE) Type 2 to Type 1 cable (e.g., for a Nissan Leaf) The choice of cable depends on the vehicle's connector type.
