September 21 4th Annual RC YYC Family BBQ at the LC home

A MESSAGE FROM OUR RC DIRECTOR Dear Regnum Christi Family in Christ,

I pray you had an enjoyable and peaceful summer with family and friends. I look forward to catching up with many of you at the BBQ and the LC home on September 21st! Details on pg 7. This summer, I had the great blessing and privilege of participating in Territory Planning Sessions. We prayed, reflected and discussed a proposed plan and vision for Regnum Christi in our territory. On the next page, I am sharing a letter from our new Delegate, Fr. Aaron Smith, LC, reflecting on the outcomes of the meetings and the path forward.

As you can see from the size of this issue, the mission is very busy and active here in our locality! Please read through it all - and thanks for your active love of souls!

As we enter into a busier season for our evangelization efforts, I encourage you to continue to reflect on the Communique from the General Convention (links on pg 7) and continue to take action in whatever ways God inspires!

Sincerely in Christ,

Margaret Matthews Regnum Christi Director

“We seek to give glory to God and make the Kingdom of Christ present in the hearts of all people and in society, by our sanctification in the state and condition of life to which God has called us, and by personal and communal apostolic action (SRCF 7).”

Letter from Fr. Aaron Smith, LC:

Vision for Regnum Christi in the United States of America and Canada

The Regnum Christi Territorial Plenary Council Meeting was held at Amicalola Falls from August 18 to 20, 2024. The meeting with 30 participants from all RC vocations and many of the localities in the territory was an opportunity to review the progress and achievements of the last five years, to reflect on the insights and outcomes of the Territorial and General Conventions, and to present and discuss the proposed 2025-2030 Territorial Strategy. These days together were marked by a spirit of missionary zeal, gratitude for the many blessings from the Lord during the past years, fraternity, as well as a desire to authentically live the Regnum Christi identity and mission. One of the main outcomes of the Plenary Council Meeting was the formulation of a Territorial Vision that expresses our aspiration for the next six years: Extending the evangelizing impact and reach of Regnum Christi. This vision reflects our commitment to be catalysts of hope, going out to collaborate with the Church in the evangelization of people and society in more places across the territory (CGC 21a). It also implies a clear understanding of the contribution of each locality to the mission, a strategic allocation of personnel, an effective formation of apostles and formators, fruitful networking among our apostolic initiatives, and special attention to the needs of marriage and family. To achieve this vision, our strategy is to grow communities of apostles who are actively engaged in evangelizing. We do this by empowering, launching, and accompanying more lay Regnum Christi and ECYD members and facilitating collaboration across apostolic initiatives, particularly those that support marriage and the family. This strategy is based on the conviction that the lay Regnum Christi members, together with the other members of Regnum Christi —Legionaries and Consecrated Men and Women, are called to be primary agents of evangelization, and that Regnum Christi offers a specific charism and spirituality to fulfill this vocation. It also recognizes the importance of fostering a culture of communion and co-responsibility among all the members of Regnum Christi, as well as the need to respond to the signs of the times and the challenges of the New Evangelization. Over the next couple of months, this basic plan will be discussed with leadership across the territory to receive feedback before final approval in November. Please do keep this process in your prayers as well as send any comments or suggestions that you might have!!

May the Lord continue to bless you, your families and communities!

Fr. Aaron Smith, LC Delegate of the Territorial Direction Committee

Locality HIGHLIGHTS

Fr. Kevin Gillis, LC, was born in Halifax, NS, as the youngest of eight children. At 13, a book about Padre Pio, gifted by his mother, deeply influenced him, igniting his desire to lead souls to a true friendship with Christ. Ordained in 2020, Fr. Kevin has since served in San Jose, CA offering Catholic formation at Canyon Heights Academy. Fr. Kevin will be assisting Fr. John (JP) Luxbacher, LC in Ascension Parish. Fr. Janick Caouette, LC, was born in Dolbeau, Quebec, where he grew up as the third of five siblings. He began his journey with the Legionaries of Christ in 1999, entering the Novitiate in Cornwall, Canada. Fr. Janick has since dedicated himself to the mission of embodying and sharing Christ's love. Before arriving in Calgary, he served as assistant administrator at Sacred Heart and vice-superior in his Legionary community. Fr. Janick will be our LC community’s new Superior. His passion lies in the integral formation the Legion offers, preparing future evangelizers and spiritual fathers to lead others in faith.

RC MISSION CORPS

SUPPORT OUR RC MISSIONARY Lauren Weimer is in Her Second Year of the RC Mission Corps Dear RC Family in Christ, My name is Lauren Weimer, and I am filled with gratitude and excitement as I share with you the incredible journey I’ve experienced during my first year as a missionary with RC Mission Corps. It has truly been life-changing. If you’d like to hear more about this year, I’ve attached a letter that dives into the details. In a surprising and beautiful turn of events, Jesus has called me to give Him a second year of service, and after much prayer and discernment, I joyfully said “Yes!” I returned to Atlanta on August 14th, ready to embrace this new chapter. I would appreciate your support in making this possible. I am aiming to raise $14,000 to fund this second year, and I humbly ask for your help - whether through prayers or monetary donations. Your generosity will make all the difference Please know that each of you is in my prayers, and I am so thankful for any support you can provide.

God Bless, Lauren Weimer

READ MY LETTER CALLED BY CHRIST. FORMED TO LEAD. SENT ON MISSION.

During our Locality gathering this past June, we were encouraged to read and prayerfully contemplate the Communiqué from the First Regnum Christi Ordinary Convention. Cathie Zentner thoughtfully prepared a beautiful summary along with reflection questions to guide our contemplation and discussion. As RC members it is a privilidge to reflect on these outcomes and insights. Please take them to prayer as you continually discern your ongoing mission to serve the church. Supporting RC Calgary!

Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference!

Our dedicated locality leaders work tirelessly to advance our mission while maintaining a responsible budget. However, we have ongoing expenses that require the support of our Regnum Christi Locality members. We kindly ask for your continued generosity through monthly or annual gifts to sustain our Regnum Christi Locality here in Calgary. Your contributions directly support the local Legionaries of Christ, operational costs, insurance, scholarships, and much more! Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact and helps us maintain our finances and supports the mission! Additionally, donations are tax-deductible, meaning your monthly gift of $100 could effectively cost about $50 after taxes. Our annual Women's Section Kick-Off came early this year as we gathered on Wednesday, September 4 at Ascension Catholic Parish. Father JP, Father Kevin and our new chaplain, Fr. Janick Caouette, LC concelebrated the beautiful Mass followed by a little F.U.N. (Formation Unity & Nurturing) in the parish hall. The day's readings were especially appropriate as St. Paul spoke profoundly of unity which is expressed in our Teamwork, Accompaniment and delicate charity. His imagery of the kind of food we feed at various stages of our spiritual life relates beautifully to the 5 “spices” of our Regnum Christi charism which give flavour to all the various apostolates and 'menu items' our Section and Team programs have to offer this year. Teamwork was evident in all the efforts to make the evening a success. Thank you all for contributing your time, talent, treasure and especially your prayers.

This past May, our young adults experienced an inspiring RC Deep Dive weekend, guided by Valerie Doran and Fr. Benjamin O'Loughlin, LC, who leads young adult support in our territory. Together, we explored how to truly thrive in our lay vocations by living out the five core elements of Regnum Christi. The energy and enthusiasm that emerged from this weekend were incredible, with a renewed commitment to apostolic service and a deepened love for the Regnum Christi way of life. We were also delighted to welcome a new member from Edmonton, Tyler Hamilton, into our community. A beautiful fruit of the Deep Dive weekend was the association of Lucy Maxwell and Grace VanBakel into Regnum Christi at Captivenia. These two remarkable women joined an outstanding team of 21 young ladies who served at the camp this year, making a profound impact on all who attended.

Another highlight was the gathering of young adults who are serving or are interested in the mission field of ECYD. Fr. Patrick, who oversees ECYD in our territory, was with us at Arcātheos and joined us at the Doran home a few days after camp.

His insights on the vital role young adults play in evangelizing youth were both motivating and encouraging. From this evening, several new apostles are eager to launch into this great mission!

SUPPORT US 2024 Fundraising Goals

We are currently taking donations to help offset the costs of Arcātheos Summer 2024. We fundraise to help ensure boys are not excluded based on their financial situation. To that end, the registration fee the boys pay only covers part of the actual costs of attending the camp. Arcātheos is considered to be a specialized activity camp, which would be cost-restrictive without the aid of sponsors. We are very grateful to those who have supported this camp through their financial donations, the use of resources, and the prayers offered. Our hope is to keep the registration costs as low as possible, without sacrificing the attention to detail that makes this camp what it is.
