history and in a certain place, Jesus Christ took up His resi dence here upon this earth. In the hour of conversion Jesus Christ takes up His residence once again in the life of a believer. This is the second incarnation. The first incarnation provided me with a Saviour. The second incarnation makes this Saviour mine. The first incarnation makes salvation possible. The second incarnation makes salvation actual. The Bible says, “ Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27). To receive Je sus Christ as Saviour is to possess Christ; and to possess Jesus Christ is to possess eternal life. A missionary to I nd i a was standing one day beside the bed o f a convert who was dying of a fatal disease. To test her faith the missionary said to this Indian Christian, “ Can you say with con fidence that you are saved and sure o f heaven?" The Indian woman replied, “ Yes, I can." And then, pointing to the Bible, she said, “ I have Christ in here.” Pointing her finger to the sky, she said, “ I have Christ up there.” And then, pointing to her heart, she said, “ I have Christ in here.” That is real Christianity. The Christian is one in whom Jesus Christ has taken up His residence. This is why Paul said, “ Christ in you, the hope o f glory." This truth has been eloquently expressed by the poet: Were Christ a thousand times in Bethlehem horn, And not in thee, then thou art still forlorn. The cross on Golgotha cannot de liver thee from ill, Unless it be upreared within thee still. I say it not a/vails that Christ from death arose, I f thou still liest in sin and death ly throes.
