WINNERS OF THE WVSSAC/FARMERS & MECHANICS INSURANCE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

The Deputy Board members of West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission met on October 13, 2022, to select the winners for the 2021-2022 WVSSAC/Farmers & Mechanics Insurance Academic Achievement Awards. The Farmers & Mechanics Insurance is sponsoring the Academic Achievement Award this year. This statewide recognition program involves two types of awards to be given to schools and individuals. The member school awards are based on the computer overall grade point averages for the Team Sport Award, the Individual Team Sport Award, and the Band Award. The individual awards include: Male Athlete; Female Athlete: Male Band Student; Female Band Student; Male Community Service and Female Community Service at both high school and middle school/9th grade levels. The winners will be honored during pregame ceremonies of the class AAA Championship Football game at Wheeling Island Stadium, Wheeling, WV, on December 3, 2022. Plaques and banners will be presented. Individual Category • Male Athlete– Reese Allen, Bridgeport High School, Bridgeport, WV. Reese is the son of Mark and Amy Allen, Bridgeport, WV. • Female Athlete– Annie Cimino, Charleston Catholic High School, Charleston, WV. Annie is the daughter of Mike and Betsie Cimino, Charleston, WV. • Male Band Student– Matthew Jagela, Weir High School, Weirton, WV. Matthew is the son of Nikki and Michael Jagela, Weirton, WV. • Female Band Student– Mary Beverage, Pocahontas High School, Dunmore, WV. Mary is the daughter of Gray and Marsha Beverage, Dunmore, WV. • Male Community Service– William C. Behrens, Notre Dame High School, Clarksburg, WV. William is the son of Alexis and Bill Behrens, Bridgeport, WV. • Female Community Service– Haley Spencer, Pocahontas High School, Dunmore, WV. Haley is the daughter of Jody and Rebecca Spencer, Marlington, WV.

• Team Sport Award– Girls Soccer – Bridgeport High School with an overall grade point average of 4.0 • Individual Team Sport Award– Boys Track – Wheeling Park High School with an overall grade point average of 4.0 • Band Award– Clay-Battelle with an overall grade point average of 3.82 HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS
