that try to hold us back, and the fight that it takes to break through them. The Creative Process My creative process always begins the same way—with a blank document in front of me and an invitation for the Holy Spirit to guide the brainstorming. I need Him to help me communicate what our people need to hear or see. Then I just start writing, usually in one long stream of consciousness. I already had Pastor Natalie’s vision in mind, and I’d seen some of Alex’s incredible graphic branding for the night— this amazing boxing gym concept with gloves as central elements. So I began writing down thoughts as they flowed: “Bold, action, push past.” Then this line came out: “Video of woman getting ready to go into a boxing ring or to punch a punching bag. As negative thoughts pop up, the girl keeps ignoring the excuses and ends up going out and fighting anyways.” I love brainstorming with other people, so I brought the idea to our creative team meeting. Together, we refined it into its final form: a journey of a fighter choosing to push past negative thoughts, comfort, and excuses to step into the future God has for her. The Morning of the Shoot Loading up the gear that morning, I remember feeling nervous. A lot of work had gone into the storyboarding, writing the script, and preparation. The lights dimmed in the auditorium as worship concluded, and I felt that familiar flutter of anticipation in my chest. I had no idea when during the service my video would play—it was a surprise to me too. As we took our seats, I turned to my mom sitting next to me and whispered excitedly, “I directed this video!” But let me back up and tell you how we got to that moment. The Spark It all started with Pastor Natalie’s vision for Women’s Night. She had been seeing a pattern in our church— women finding themselves in difficult circumstances, seeking God’s intervention to change their situations, but sometimes falling short in taking the personal steps necessary for transformation. We allow our excuses or shortcomings to hold us back from our future, when we should push through and fight for it. When I heard her heart for this message, I knew immediately that I wanted to create something that was a visual metaphor of the thoughts that creep into our minds
