Flexographic printing powers nearly half of the world’s packaging, yet many professionals who interact with it dai- ly have never seen a press in action. Flexo Fundamentals bridges that gap by turning technical complexity into clear, accessible knowledge. The course empowers learners to communicate confidently with clients, vendors, and pro- duction teams—without needing a technical background. “We developed Flexo Fundamentals to help profes- sionals feel confident talking about flexography,” said Kenny Tucker, FTA’s Director of Technical Education. “By understanding how flexographic printing works, non-pro- duction team members can make better decisions, build stronger client relationships, and reduce costly miscom- munications.” Through visuals, real-world examples, and interactive tools, Flexo Fundamentals provides a clear overview of: • What flexographic printing is and why it’s essential to packaging production, • How inks, plates, anilox rollers, and substrates work together, • The workflow from artwork to press to finished product, • Where flexography fits best across applications and industries, and • How sustainability is driving innovation in flexo. Under the leadership of Conference Chair Bob Coomes of PPC Flexible Packaging, the 2025 agenda offered 24 technical sessions, totaling more than 800 minutes of ed- ucation. Among the dominant themes this year were Flexog- raphic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances (FIRST) methodologies— optimization, fingerprinting, char- acterization, process control and process improvement– that continue to shape the future of flexographic printing. The conference also highlighted emerging technolo- gies — from AI to RFID integration to inline color measure- ment systems. The FTA Technical Conference focused on case stud- ies and troubleshooting. Printers and suppliers shared first-hand experiences addressing flexography’s variables, substrate challenges, and workflow bottlenecks.
