Let Me Tell You a Bit About Fatherhood
One of my greatest accomplishments in life was becoming a father. I’ll never forget the day each tiny human made their appearance into the world and the feelings of joy, pride, accomplishment, and a sprinkle of fear that followed. It’s true when I say that all of my favorite people call me Dad or Grandpa. To this day, my wife and I have five children, 11 grandkids, and six great-grandchildren!
One of the greatest lessons and memories I have of him is a story you’ve surely heard before, but on Father’s Day, it feels appropriate to tell it once more. When I was just a little guy, like all of my other friends, I wanted a bike for my birthday. My dad, always concerned about money, told me that we weren’t in a position to purchase one. With this, I was sad, but my ears perked up when he told me he could let me in on a little secret of how to get it. “To get your bike,” he said, “don’t lie to get something. Don’t steal. And if you ever sign anything, your word better be better than any piece of paperwork you ever sign. You have to work your fanny off.” Except he didn’t say “fanny”! One day recently, while window shopping in Hobby Lobby, I came across a small plaque, roughly 2 inches by 4 inches. It read, “A surefire way to succeed in life is by taking massive action every day.” When I read this, it sounded exactly like something he would say, so I had to purchase it. Now, this plaque sits just below the clock in my office. It’s comforting to see it every day and always reminds me of the lessons in hard work, perseverance, honesty, loyalty, and motivation my dad taught me. I love being a dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather to all of my kids and grandkids. My dad taught me a lot about parenting and fatherhood, and these lessons have hopefully carried over to my younger generations. I wish everyone a happy and healthy Father’s Day — don’t forget to spoil your dads!
“Life is amazing, and my decision to become a father was the best I’ve ever made.”
Just this past December, one of our granddaughters welcomed a baby boy into the world, then, just a few short months later, in February, another granddaughter had a baby girl. To say we are blessed with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren is an understatement — we are so fortunate to have an ever-growing family with beautiful young children surrounding us. Life is amazing, and my decision to become a father was the best I’ve ever made. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Every June, when Father’s Day rolls around, I remember my dad, the many lessons he taught me, and the memories we shared. Just two years ago, we lost him at the age of 95. He lived a long and fabulous life, and while I miss him more than I can put into words, the good memories certainly keep him alive.

HOW THE WORLD FELL FOR FRIDA RESCUE DOG’S LEGACY LIVES ON
Dressed in protective goggles, blue booties, and a matching vest, this incredible rescue dog became a symbol of hope in Mexico. Frida, a cheerful
While the nation was devastated by the disaster, this smiley rescue pup brought worldwide attention to the tragedy. Frida’s dedication (and impeccable style) quickly made her an internet celebrity, and soon, murals of the lifesaving canine graced the walls of Mexico City. Even Captain America, aka Chris Evans, gave Frida a shoutout on Twitter, adding, “What did we do to deserve dogs?” The hero dog then traveled the world, helping countries suffering from the aftermath of disastrous earthquakes. Frida saved lives in Haiti and Ecuador before retiring from her position in 2019 at 10 years old to live the rest of her days in comfort and love. Sadly, the Mexican Navy announced Frida’s passing in November 2022 due to old age. She was 13 years old. In her honor, a magnificent bronze statue of Frida, clad in goggles and boots, stands in front of the Mexican Navy office in Mexico City. On the day of her death, the Mexican Navy changed their Twitter banner to an illustration of Frida and spread the hashtag “#HastaSiempreFrida.” Frida will always be remembered for her lifesaving work and the hope she embodied for the entire world.
yellow Labrador retriever, was a devoted member of

Frida became a national hero when a devastating earthquake hit Mexico City in 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake took
more than 300 lives and injured many more. While sifting through dangerous debris and aftershocks, Frida saved 12 people after finding them alive while uncovering more than 40 bodies during her lifesaving career.
Bring on the Bonding! IDEAS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR KIDS
Spending individual quality time with your children is critical to a strong bond. Conversations you might not otherwise have are easier to initiate when you have one-on-one time. Every kid wishes to spend time with their parent and have their full attention, so devoting one-on-one time to bond with your children is vital. When you spend individual time bonding with each of your children, you’ll learn even more about them than before! Of course, set aside the same amount of time and effort for each child to ensure no one has hurt feelings. Creating a colorful, sticker-filled calendar with everyone’s special bonding time mapped out can keep everyone in the loop and excited about their respective activities! Here are some outing ideas to consider. Pottery Night at Home (or a Studio) A crowd-pleaser for all ages, pottery can be a creative and fun activity to share with your child or teen. You can keep it simple by sticking with clay, sculpting tools, and paints. Or, you can take your kid to a
pottery studio where an instructor can guide you both. Whatever you choose, you and your child will enjoy letting your creativity flow while spending quality time together. You might even make your new favorite cup or bowl along the way! Arcade Fun Near You While many kids spend much of their time with their eyes glued to screens already, an arcade allows you to turn that video game passion into quality family bonding. Have your kids show you the hip new games available while you school them with old- school classics like pinball or Skee-Ball. Most arcades have prize counters, so you can get souvenirs to remember the trip! A Nature Walk Easy and affordable, a nature walk lets you and your child get some fresh air. Inspect all the plants, animals, insects, and leaves you find on your path. This can be a great learning experience for younger kids and a fun
afternoon activity for you both. Take it to the next level by having a picnic with snacks and drinks!
Lunch and a Matinee The phrase “dinner and a show” has been around for a long time, but lunch and a matinee turns the date classic into a family bonding experience. Going earlier in the day makes the food and tickets cheaper, and theaters tend to run more kid-friendly movies earlier in the day. Taking the time to go to one of your child’s favorite pit stops, followed by a movie you can both enjoy, is the recipe for meaningful bonding! When you take the time to bond one-on-one with your child, they’ll be excited to go to new places and make new memories with just the two of you. Make these outings unforgettable by giving your child your full attention and enjoying each other’s company.

Take a Break
Have you ever had those days when you don’t want to cook? What about times when you’ve had a long day at work, and the last thing on your mind is dinner? Pulling out your pots, cutting boards, and food can be stressful when you’re mentally and physically weary. Is there anything you can do to make this part of your life easier? Meal planning and prepping takes the stress out of cooking! What are some benefits of meal planning? Know the answer to “What’s for dinner?”: There’s nothing more frustrating than opening your pantry, looking at the food, and not knowing what to eat. It can be draining to decide what to cook each night. But meal planning helps you determine your dishes in advance, so you never need to wonder what you and your family will eat that night. And best of all, you only need to cook at least once a week. Keep more money in your pocket: Sometimes, when you are unsure of what you want to eat, your first option may be to order takeout. While this is a quick and easy way to get dinner, it can create a huge hole in your wallet — especially if you eat out more than once a week or feed a family. You will no longer need to make nightly food runs when you meal plan! You can buy your food in bulk, prepare a few nights’ worth of meals, and save tons of money. What hinders people from meal planning? Making meals too complicated is the main reason why meal planning doesn’t work for some people. When starting out, it’s best to create easy and basic foods. Once you begin meal planning, you will discover more simplistic ways to make intricate dishes. Another reason people avoid meal prep is the amount of time spent in the kitchen. However, you will save yourself time each day, so you can continue doing what you want throughout the week and less time ordering takeout or quickly throwing a menu together. What’s All the Buzz About? Benefits and Risks of ‘Bee Sting’ Therapy
What are the benefits? Apitherapy has been proven effective in treating scars and wounds, reducing plaque and gingivitis, and regulating thyroid function. Even neurological and immune diseases such as Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, lupus, and Alzheimer’s can respond positively to the therapy. It can also ease the symptoms of allergies, shingles, and gout and can help reduce nerve pain.
Most people will freeze in place or slowly back away when they hear the distinctive buzzing of a bee nearby — nobody wants to get stung! However, Gwyneth Paltrow and other celebrities have embraced apitherapy, a type of therapy that uses bee stings to treat scarring, inflammation, and many dental and health conditions. Here’s the thing, though: Apitherapy has been shown to carry many risks along with the benefits; thus, it’s vital to discuss this treatment with your doctor before giving it a go! What does apitherapy entail? The use of honeybee venom, pollen, honey, or beeswax to treat joint pain for arthritis and other medicinal purposes can be traced back to ancient Egypt, China, and Greece. Honeybee products can be used topically as an ointment or cream, orally, or via injection (sometimes by a medically administered bee sting). What are the risks? First and most obvious, if an individual is allergic to honey or bee products, the allergic reaction can be dangerous. However, other risks with apitherapy include muscular weakness, headaches, jaundice, body pains, uterine contractions, or a cough. Everyone responds differently to natural therapy and some apitherapy practices, but using honey to soothe a sore throat can carry fewer risks than others.
If this natural therapy sounds appealing, discuss the idea with your doctor before trying it. If they give you the all-clear, the next step is to locate a trusted apitherapy provider!
