TOPIC 1
It depends on the position. For Ratings roles, the prescreening may include only a couple of steps. For Cadet or Officer-level roles, it can go up to four steps — including a psychometric assessment and a live interview. APPLICATION & PROCESS Q: How many steps are there until an applicant can be approved by the Marine Superintendent?
Q: How long does the process take before joining the ship?
The onboarding duration depends on how fast the required documents are completed — such as the C1/D visa, medical exam, and STCW certificates (including any renewals). On average, it may take between 1 and 6 months.

Not necessarily. Each job description specifies if cruise ship experience is mandatory. For most roles, it is not required. Q: Does the required experience have to be on a cruise ship? Q: How can I apply for an Engineer position without having experience as an engineer on a cruise ship? Please review the specific job description and minimum requirements for each role to understand if your experience fits. TOPIC 2 ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
At the moment, we don’t have openings for fresh cadets without prior experience. We encourage you to gain initial experience first and then apply to CCL. Q: I am a cadet from the Merchant Marine of Surabaya, Indonesia. Can I join Carnival after I graduate, as a newcomer? You may look into Wiper openings — that would be the most suitable entry point. Q: I have experience as an Engine Cadet on a tanker ship. Can I join a cruise ship as a Junior Cadet, Wiper, or Oiler?
Q: I have previous experience as an Oiler on a bulk carrier. Can I join a cruise ship as a Wiper?
Yes, that’s possible.

TOPIC 3 POSITION PLACEMENT & PROMOTION Q: I have experience as a Third Officer on a container ship. What position can I apply for on a cruise ship? We currently don’t have openings for 3rd Officer roles. You may register for alerts if the desired role is not available on the website, so that you can stay alerted when the position opens Same as above — no dedicated Officer Training Program is open at this time. Q: Is there an Officer Training Program for Third Officers? Once you complete the required sea time and receive positive evaluations and promotion recommendations, you’ll be promoted automatically to the next level. Promotion paths are clearly defined for each department, and all promotions are based on merit and performance. Q: If we have experience as Deck Cadets on Carnival Cruise, can we be promoted directly to Officer? Some say Asians are rarely accepted as officers. Yes, that’s possible — you may apply for available Deck Rating roles such as AB or OS Q: Is there any chance for a Deck Officer Class IV to join the cruise ship? We’re not hoping to be an officer, perhaps for a position like Able Seaman or Ordinary Seaman?

TOPIC 4
WORKING CONDITIONS & BENEFITS It depends on the role. For Ratings and Petty Officers, contracts are usually 6–7 months onboard followed by 7–8 weeks of vacation. For Cadets and Officers, contracts are typically 4–5 months onboard followed by about 8 weeks of vacation. Q: What is the typical length of a contract? Life onboard is different — you’ll work every day during your contract ( max of 12 or 14 hrs a day in a 24 hrs period; or 70-72 hrs in any 7 days period, as x MLC ), with all rest periods and time off considered when you’re on vacation after the contract ends. Q: When working on a cruise ship, is there any day off,
AGE LIMIT TOPIC 5
There’s no official age limit, as long as you meet the medical and physical requirements for your role. Q: Does working on a cruise ship have an age limit?or do we work every day?
