Once you complete the required sea time and receive positive evaluations and promotion recommendations, you’ll be promoted automatically to the next level. Promotion paths are clearly defined for each department, and all promotions are based on merit and performance. Q: If we have experience as Deck Cadets on Carnival Cruise, can we be promoted directly to Officer? Some say Asians are rarely accepted as officers. Yes, that’s possible — you may apply for available Deck Rating roles such as AB or OS Q: Is there any chance for a Deck Officer Class IV to join the cruise ship? We’re not hoping to be an officer, perhaps for a position like Able Seaman or Ordinary Seaman?
