A notable example of these clashes can be seen in the instance where armed
Proud Boy members turned up at the protests in the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone to ‘confront’ what they referred to as ‘ authoritarian behaviour’ . 118 In
December 2020, members of the Proud Boys also targeted the Ashbury United
Methodist Church (the oldest historically black church in Washington D.C.)
following a Pro-Trump rally, where they destroyed and burned a BLM sign that
the church had raised.
On the other hand, activists from the far-right ‘Boogaloo Movement’ exploited
the anger towards the police felt by BLM activists to adhere to their anti-police
and anti-government narratives. The group's initiative is to prepare for, or even attempt to incite a ‘Second Civil War’ against the government. 119 The U.S.
Department of Homeland Security reported that Boogaloo members would attend
