From the desk of Dr. Cathy Beck,, Director of CC Schools Dear Students, Let’s hear it for girls indeed! I found some interesting facts about girls recently. Did you know… •Girls usually have more words at 16 months than boys do? Girls are also the first to hit the 300 word mark in vocabulary acquisition. Additionally, women generally speak 20,000 words a day while men speak about 7,000. •Girl athletes show more symptoms and take longer to recover from a concussion than boys do. •Girls are willing to take on more student debt for a college education than boys are. •Girls are better at figuring out people’s emotions based on facial expressions. They also recognize faces more readily than boys. •Girls have more sensitive hearing than boys do right from birth. •Girls are better at recognizing tastes than boys. •Researchers have found that girls are genetically predisposed to develop fear for potentially dangerous insects. •Girls see more variations of the red/orange spectrum than boys do. Girls also see 20% more color than men. •Girls are biologically wired to shed more tears than boys, as the male tear duct is larger in boys than girls. •Women have smaller hearts and lungs than men.

•The two highest recorded IQs in history belong to women! •Women earn more than 60% of college degrees in the US. •On average, women live 2-5 years longer than men.
•This may be one of the most interesting facts…the nearer a mother lives to the equator, the more likely she is to give birth to a daughter as opposed to a son. Three cheers for girls! Hip, hip hooray! Always, Dr. Beck
