“BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD” Hornera Hodgson

in human hearts a love for their Sav iour that no glory and majesty would ever create, and it is that love the heart of God is hungering for! “Slain from the foundation . . . ” (Rev. 1 3 :9 ). For love of us, Christ created us, although He knew to the minutest detail all that Calvary would mean. Truly “we love Him because He first loved u s!” As E v e. was hidden in the side of Adam, so the thought of this “church” or “bride” was hidden in the heart of God “from the beginning of the world” (Eph. 3 :9 ). Only in the sleep that resembled death was Adam’s side opened and his bride created (Gen. 2 :21 ).' And when the Lord was there in Eden He was thinking of the deep sleep He would one day pass through—-the sleep of death— when His side would he opened, with a spear, and from that hour would grow up a Church . . . a new creation, indwelt by His Spirit . . . His.very own! Such was the mys tery kept hidden since the. world began (Rom. 16 :25 ). MY CUP RUNNETH OVER Psalm 23 There is always something over When we trust our gracious Lord; Every cup He fills o’erfloweth, His great rivers all are broad. Nothing narrow, nothing stinted, Ever issued from His store; To His own He gives full measure, Running over, evermore. There is always something over, When we, from the Father’s hand, Take our portion with thanksgiving, Praising for the path He planned. Satisfaction, full and deepening, Fills the soul and lights the eye, When the heart has trusted Jesus All its need to satisfy. There is always-, something over When we tell of all His love; Unplumbed depths still lie beneath us, Unsealed heights rise far above. Human lips can never utter All His wondrous tenderness, We can only praise and wonder, And His name forever bless, —Margaret E. Barber. “A strange coincidence brought The King’s Business to me— the first time I have seen it. Yesterday a man was to deliver to me some books belonging to thè W. C. T. U. (of which I am the treasurer) but by mistake brought a "year’s file of The King’s Business. In it I notice your call for ‘Defenders of the Faith.’ I’ haven’t much money, but lots of time, good health, and this old doctrine of fundamentalism was taught me from my cradle up and I have never questioned it. Let me know what you have for me to do.” (Mrs. M-M-M-, California). “ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD”

Concerning the Church God’s “eternal purpose” (Eph. 3: 9-11). God’s purpose had no begin ning any more than God Himself had a beginning. Prom the unbegun ages He had planned to have a Body for Himself, composed of beings far superior to the angels, each member a distinct personality, and-each loving Him in a peculiarly independent way. '“Chosen in Him . . (Eph. 1 :4 ). Not only known hut loved and chosen for His bride (Psa. 139:16). “Accord ing to the foreknowledge of God” (1 Pet. 1:2; Rom. 8:29). “Saved . . . in Him” (1. Tim. 1 :9 ). What complete and wondrous grace! Those beings He loved so dearly even before the world was, were going to bre'ak His heart with sin; but salva tion was worked out in His plan, be forehand, so that sin should not tri umph. Concerning Christ Foreordained to Die (1 Pet. 1:18- 2 0 ). Calvary was no surprise to Christ. He was 'calculating on" its agony when He first said, “Let there be light.” And for love of us, He went steadfastly on with the work of creation— erecting as it were— the scaffold on which He was Himself to suffer. Most wondrous love. Foreordained to be the Propitiation for Sin. Sin was reckoned with and the cure for it planned long before it ever existed. Why— knowing the cost of Calvary— did God ever allow sin to enter the universe? Because (1 ) Cal vary would show forth an hitherto hid den side of ' God’s glory— His grace and meekness and power to endure; and (2) because Calvary would plant
