B i l l w a s h o m e from school for the weekend. He walked into the house with an expression on his face which Mother recognized at once. He was bursting with some idea or thought. “Where’s Dad?” the 23-year-old inquired. “At the church studying.” “ I’ll be seeing you.” The family’s now oldest child needed no special invitation to go see his father. Dinner was ready, but neither Dad dy nor Bill had yet put in his appear ance. “ Dear,” Mother inquired over the phone, “ don’t you fellows want to eat?” “ Oh, is it that late? Bill and I have been so busy talking we forgot the time. We’ve been talking about the kingdom. We have it up in heaven but Bill won’t let me get it down on earth at this point.” With a laugh with the suggestion of a lilt Daddy concluded, “We’ll be right home, Darling. Bye.” Mother slowly cradled the tele phone. What greater blessing could God ever give her than that her son and his dad should question and chal lenge and fellowship with each other in matters of the Spirit? Her thank fulness was accompanied by a tight ened determination to not let those two men get ahead of her in their thinking and discussions. When she voiced her thoughts on this matter to Daddy he laughed and said, “ That will he the day when you neither take part in discussions nor ask what we’re up to!” “You have yourself to thank for that, Honey,” Mother retorted. Then in a more sober vein she added, “ I’ll be eternally grateful to you for the way you have kept me up with current studies and thinking in theological and philosophical areas. I have needed -and wanted this both for the sake of our children and for the work of the Lord. I cannot praise the Lord enough for your contribution to Bill and the thinking development of our older children. What more, indeed, O Lord? “ This is the Lord’s doing; it is mar velous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23).
