2024 Mid South Horn Workshop Program

As a performer, Goodwin-Souffront is the Fourth Hornist of the Brevard Philharmonic (NC), Symphony of the Mountains (TN), the Appalachia Wind Symphony (TN), and Johnson City Symphony Orchestra (TN). Additionally, Goodwin-Souffront is the Acting Second Horn of the Salisbury Symphony (NC). Tyler has appeared in numerous other orchestras and wind ensembles in North and South Carolinas, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. Tyler is a third-year doctoral student at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he studies primarily with Denise Tryon in addition to Jeffrey Nelsen and Richard Seraphinoff. Goodwin-Souffront has received degrees in music performance and composition from Furman University (BM) and the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (MM). Tyler has previously studied with Dr. Darian Washington, Dr. Abigail Pack, Andrew Bain, Dale Clevenger, Tod Bowermaster, Sean Yancer, Dr. Margaret Tung, Dr. James Naigus, and Elizabeth Freimuth. Marie Lickwar Marie Lickwar is the Lecturer in Horn at The University of Hawai ʻ i at M ā noa and has an active horn studio on the island of O ʻ ahu. Many of her students are in Hawai ʻ i Youth Symphony and former students have gone on to study horn at the collegiate level as well as hold jobs in professional orchestras. She subs regularly with the Royal Hawaiian Band and has played with Hawai ʻ i Symphony Orchestra, Hawai ʻ i Opera Theater, Chamber Music Hawai ʻ i and Hawai ʻ i Pops. She has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, the Houston Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic orchestras. Fascinated by how horn playing works, one of Marie’s loves is teaching students to play the horn efficiently through the practice of fundamentals. She has presented lectures: “Horn Tips” for American School Band Directors’ Association, “Starting Beginner Horns,” for O ʻ ahu Band Directors’ Association, and “Change, flexibility and creating new habits,” at the 2015 International Horn Society Symposium. While living in Houston, Marie created the Houston Horn Camp, a unique summer program for middle and high school students, which ran annually from 2009-2013.
