AU DÉPART, UNE RENCONTRE
Jean-Baptiste Martin et Vincent Farelly étaient restaurateurs quand leurs chemins se sont croisés sur le chantier exigeant d’une maison ancienne. Vincent, formé à l’Institut national du patrimoine, et Jean-Baptiste, diplômé d’un master en restauration à la Sorbonne, eurent alors à recons- tituer un motif de papier dominoté – soit des feuilles imprimées selon une technique artisanale du XVIII e siècle, ancêtres du pa- pier peint moderne –, car l’original était impossible à réhabiliter. Ils firent le choix de retrouver la méthode originelle pour recons- tituer un fragment de mur entier. Stupéfaits par le résultat et la quasi-inexistence des professionnels maîtrisant ce savoir-faire, ils imaginèrent la suite de leur histoire dans l’artisanat d’art en tant que dominotiers des temps modernes. Vincent Farelly revient sur cette rencontre avec l’ancêtre du papier peint : « De là est née en 2012, l’idée de créer un papier dominoté classique, dans la tradition du XVIII e siècle quand ils étaient encore imprimés sur des feuilles de papier chiffon d’un format de 45 par 35 centimètres. »

Amazed by the result as well as by the dearth of arti- sans mastering this skill, they foresaw a future for themselves as modern-day dominotiers . Vincent Farelly recalls this encounter with the forebear of modern wallpaper: “This gave rise in 2012 to the idea of creating classic dominoté wallpaper in accordance with 18 th century tradition when it was still printed on sheets of chiffon paper measuring 45 by 35 centimeters.”
