FAT-TIRE BIKING Biking in the snow allows you to experience winter in a whole new way! Fat-tire bikes utilize much larger tires to increase the traction on snow-covered trails. Hidden Valley Recreation Area in Ely is groomed for fat-tire biking, with miles of fun trails to ride. The Mesabi trail is partially groomed for fat-tire biking, with the whole trail rideable in low snow conditions. RULES & ETIQUETTE • Biking isn’t allowed in the BWCAW. • Stay off of ski tracks, use designated fat-tire bike tracks. • Leave pets at home. • Don’t ride if your tire is leaving a rut, wait for the trail to set up after grooming before you ride. • Fat-tire bikers yield to all other trail users. Bikes have brakes, skis don’t.
