King's Business - 1947-02

Suffer loss! Dear Christian friend, have you considered what it will mean to stand "ashamed before him at his coming” ? (1 John 2:28). We may be saved by His merit, but saved as was Lot out of Sodom—empty handed! As Job stated their case: “I am escaped with the skin of my teeth” (Job 19:20). There may be terrible tragedy in that word Zoss. Have you ever had your home burned to the ground while you stood by helplessly, realiz ing that all the precious things as sembled through the years were de stroyed? Have you ever entered your place of business in the morning to find your safe ransacked and your savings and priceless possessions gone? Then you know a little of the feeling of suffering loss. But what will it mean to stand be fore Him who gave His all that you might have eternal bliss—and in the presence of all the redeemed—to real ize that because of opportunity neg lected, your condition in Heaven is to be forever affected, and your place a lesser one than you expected? What a moment if you then dis cover that out of the precious ma terials you have been sending on ahead to glory, a wonderful mansion has been prepared! What a blessing if you have treasure laid up in Heav en—gold, silver, precious stones— works that were the fruit of the Holy Spirit, in accordance with the will of God! “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10). “They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Dan. 12:3). On what foundation are you build ing? What materials are you send ing to Heaven in advance of your ar rival? I In the s q u a r e outside the A church, the soldiers came to a j halt. "For Such a The Story of a False By a Special R IDICULOUS! I have a large, convenient wastebasket f o r such trash as this.” So thought the busy Christian worker, as he crushed a pernicious tract and tossed it into the indiffer ent basket. Only for a moment had he been disturbed in his study of the Word. His doorbell had been rung by a colporteur representing one of the many false cults of today, dis tributing free literature. The col porteur had not disclosed the identity of his sect; he had politely presented an attractively printed folder, and passed on. Yes, he had passed on. And as he passed out of the thoughts of this one well-grounded Christian worker, he was passing into other homes. All that day, all that week, he and other colporteurs, trained by their cam paign leader, were systematically cov ering the city. They gave away large quantities of their literature; they sold “Bible study courses” wherever interested listeners had any cash on hand; they instructed radio owners regarding the station and the time to tune in for “ the most wonderful broadcast” ; they personally invited thousands to “the good meetings be ing attended by Christians of all de nominations” at a downtown theater; they “cheered up” many a lonely soul, promising either to call again or send a local worker (of their sect). “The children of this world are in their generation wiser than the chil dren of light” (Luke 16:8). The Christian worker who thought the leaflet handed him "ridiculous” (be cause he recognized its source), was almost in a class by himself. He con tinued week by week with his leisure ly study and scholarly presentation of the rightly divided Word of Truth. Meanwhile, the “grievous wolves” which had entered into the church were not sparing even his own flock. He missed certain members, and found them “interested” in the dan gerous cult which had been putting on the aggressive campaign. He realized now that he needed more than merely the epithet “ridic ulous” with which to refute this false doctrine. Oh, for some literature against it, preferably w r i t t e n by someone who had come out of it! There might be something of the sort in print—but where? Air mail com munications to and from his favorite Christian magazine resulted in his

Time as This" “Isms” Expose Service Correspondent learning of a specialized false “isms” -exposing ministry recently instituted in Minneapolis. Believing that many of our read ers may at some time need this as sisting ministry in distinguishing “the spirit of truth” from “the spirit of error,” The King’s Business is glad to give not only the name and address, but something of the story of this new organization. Religion Analysis Service, Inc., was conceived in faith and brought forth in prayer “for such a time as this.” The enemy is now flooding our land with the “doctrines of devils.” All of the many false “isms” with in Christendom claim to be founded on the Bible. All help themselves to their respective “proof texts,” but have little use for the Book as a whole. The result is that each cult has its different mixture of truth and error. One old Puritan preacher stated it well: “There is probably some little fragment of truth in every religion of error, because man is so imperfect in all his work that he could not invent a complete er ror.” Even if he could produce such a thing, man would not be permitted to do so by the great Deceiver, who knows how to transform himself into an angel of light, and is a master of the art of inventing specious decep tions. Unquestionably, we* are living in the time when “evil men and seduc ers . . . wax worse and worse, de ceiving and being deceived.” What is your attitude toward them? Are you “tolerant?” Or do you “try the spirits” and “prove all things” ? What is your feeling toward the multitudes who have turned aside to “another gospel,” which is no gospel? “Is it nothing to you?” (Lam. 1, 12). Or are you, like our Saviour, “moved with compassion toward them” ? Alert servants of Christ have been sounding the alarm with such dec larations as the following: “It is time the Christian church wakes up to the diabolical errors of these cults.” . . . “Unless Christian leaders become more active against the things that are against the Faith, the evangelical church is soon going to face its darkest hour.” . . . "Let us pray that gifted ones among us may be led of God to give them selves to exposing the fallacies of these heretical sects perpetually preying upon our people.” (Continued on Page 46)
