For the Children A H ome W ith G od (J ohn 14:1-3) M emory V erse : “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Did you ever have a dear friend who moved away to another city or state? You will remember how lonely you were for a few weeks. But before long your friend wrote to you and asked you to visit in his home. How happy you were that you could see him again and talk with him! Before the Lord Jesus died upon the cross of Calvary for our sins, He told His disciples that very soon (after His resurrection) He was go ing to return to His home in Heaven. It made the disciples sad to hear this message. The Lord said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye be lieve in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many man sions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you,-I will come again, and re ceive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know . . . Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” God’s Son is preparing a home in Heaven for every person who has received Him as Saviour. Christians who die now go to that home. Chris tians who are alive when the Lord Jesus returns again will go with Him to their home in Heaven. Are you ready to live in the home in Heaven which is for those who have been born again? You may be come ready by giving yourself to Him who said, "I am the way.” JSE BANGLES AS SOUVENIRS Som ething new and different. Souvenir tags in lovely colors. Pin attachment. MARCH 23, 1947 PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN BROTHERHOOD J ohn 17:1-11, 20-23.

Outline and Exposition T he F oundation of B rotherhood (vs. 1-9) The foundation of Christian broth erhood is the spiritual life in Christ received from the Father. Christ finished His glorifying of the Father upon earth, and His disciples may now know the Father in the eternal life He provides (vs. 1-4). To those who were given to Him, Christ mani fested the Father’s name, and de livered the Father’s words. Hence, the believers knew that Jesus came from God, and that God had sent Him (vs. 5-9). T he A ssociates in B rotherhood (vs. 9-11) The associates in Christian brother hood are those given by the Father to His Son. Whoever belongs to the Father belongs also to Christ, and whoever belongs to Christ belongs to the Father. Jesus was leaving the world, but His associates were to remain in it, and it was needful that they be kept by Him in the un friendly environment. Hence, in His prayer for their protection, Christ re turned them into the hands of the Father for keeping. T he P rayer F or B rotherhood (vs. 20-23) Jesus prayed for the unity of all of His own: the oneness that character ized His union with the Father. The purpose of this was that the world might believe (v. 21) referring to the present time; and that the world might know, referring to the future, when the glory of Christ will be manifest to all the universe (vs. 22, 23). Jesus prayed for unity in the Christian brotherhood and for knowl edge of that unity by the world. Such a brotherhood is supernatural and spiritual, because it is in Christ, and can only exist between the children of God. In the Bible there is no such teaching of a Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man; that theory is a figment of man’s mind, a denial of the need for the new birth, and a rejection of saving faith in Christ. Points and Problems "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father” (v. 1). This is really the Lord’s , Prayer. That which is commonly called the Lord’s Prayer is really a prayer for the disciples to pray; it contains petitions Jesus would not have uttered for Himself (Matt. 6:9-13). This prayer in John 17 was the Lord’s request for Him self in which He reveals Himself as our perfect intercessor. “He ever liveth to make intercession” (Heb. 7:25). Note there is no “Amen” to this prayer, indicating that there is no cessation of His pleading on be half of His own. * * V "I have glorified thee on the earth . . . finished the work . . . manifested thy name . . . given unto them the words which thou gavest me” (vs. 4-8). Herein is presented a four-fold claim concerning His earth ly ministry made by Christ. Each sentence begins, “I have.” Jesus had perfectly accomplished the Father’s plan for His earthly sojourn. This is the ideal for His children: “He that saith he abideth in him ought him self also so to walk, even as he walked” (1 John 2:6). * * * “That they may he one, as we are” (v. 11). The plea here is for unity, not union. It is very possible to have union without unity. For unity there must be common faith and life, the same interests and hopes. The unity of which Jesus speaks is limited by the phrase, “as we are.” The unity of the Father and Son is a unity of es sence: equality of nature and iden tical deity. So Christian unity must be based upon a common possession of the life of the Father and Son, similar hopes and beliefs. Much “unity” that is advocated today is ' not unity at all: how can Jews, Cath olics, and Protestants be yoked to gether? How can fundamentalists and modernists be one? Two cannot walk together, “unless they be agreed.” / STAMMER?
