Beware of Scammers.

Those looking to steal your money and your identity are using multiple methods to scam you. These scammers can reach you by phone, social media, internet, and email. Here are a few tips to help identify a scam. 1. Scammers will portray themselves as a government agency (IRS, Law Enforcement) requesting payment. They commonly threaten legal action, such as fines or arrests, if payment is not received. They will ask for the payment in gift cards. NO GOVERNMENT AGENCY, ESPECIALLY LAW ENFORCEMENT, WILL DEMAND PAYMENT FROM YOU IN THE FORM OF GIFT CARDS. If you have doubts about the validity of the person contacting you, visit the government website and speak to them directly or with your local law enforcement. 2. Scammers use cryptocurrency because the digital currency can be transferred quickly. If someone requests you to go to a Bitcoin ATM and transfer money, it’s a scam.

3. If you observe a suspicious email, do not open it.

4. Beware of fake social media accounts. If someone is messaging you that you are unfamiliar with, the best practice is to block their account. Do not give them any personal information. 5. The elderly are targets for scammers. Please discuss with your elderly friends and loved ones about the scams that are taking place.
