Globally, there’s a clear trend toward increased regulation and standardization of sustainability reporting, particularly within the EU. However, companies decide what they want to measure and track. Sustainability reports are like snowflakes—no two are exactly alike. By rethinking how we package and present our data, payroll can help companies check off their ESG goals, reduce emissions, and create a lasting impact—not just during the holidays but every day of the year.

Under CSRD, companies must report according to the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), closely aligned with the GRI Standards. In Sweden, new rules for sustainability reporting came into effect on July 1, 2024. These regulations require large companies and small- and medium-sized (SME) listed companies within the European Economic Area (EEA) to include a sustainability report as part of their annual report. The Nordic countries have published a standard for non-listed SMEs that is now aligned with the coming European standard for this sector.
