GPA: You have your fingers in several parts of employment administration. When does your role end and HR’s begin? Annemarie: HR is intake. Like payroll, they are not always getting the recognition they deserve. We come in once the package is complete and then arrange payments, ensure compliance, and mobility. My Global Payments team takes all the data and ensures its accuracy. Errors can occur in a number of places, but especially during data entry. We developed a strategy to build our system and processes for this, as we are the last safety net for the data.
Global Mobility and Immigration have more strategic roles in ensuring the business aims are supported with cost projections and understanding what is the right fit and visa type for those working in other countries. Everyone is talking about work from anywhere, but with the appearance of no boundaries, people lose the context of compliance and complexity. They don’t know how this needs to be handled behind the scenes. It’s not unlimited. GPA: How are you using technology to improve your operation? Annemarie: Every time you touch data, there is a risk of error. We use technology to reduce the manual work but also to eliminate risk. We are moving to develop a ‘touchless payroll’using technology. These technology solutions not only help streamline how data is audited but also how the data is collected. They provide a system-to-system review of the payroll, and audits of the data before sending it off to the vendor. The system does most of the validation, and flags issues.
