GPA: What is something that makes your job challenging that some people don’t consider? Annemarie: When payroll is brought in too late for changes or initiatives, you are faced with making the impossible, possible. It always puts us under extreme pressure. So many think that to implement these initiatives, payroll has this Harry Potter wand, and “flop,” you have it in place. Even if you are running payroll in-house, you need time to code the change, set it up, and test it. With a third-party vendor, you need weeks or months to make sure your interfaces are tested. Employers need the whole picture to successfully pay people. The challenge comes when not considering pieces of payroll— something as basic as setting up a payroll account, for example—is overlooked. We are fortunate with S&P Global that this is recognized and we are included in the early stages. GPA: How do you see the future of payroll evolving in your organization? Annemarie: We are transforming to a touchless payroll.
