PEACE OB WAR? (Continued from page 553)

A Zionist leader who was not relying on the Bible or pro phecy, but on, his own common sense and observation and from what he has seen, said recently that “ Eight million Jews stand today in danger of their lives.” The tide of anti- Semitic feeling is rising so that the Jew is now seeking Palestine as a refuge from the persecution that is coming, not knowing that even there they will not be safe from the Great Tribulation. People will not believe the things which are predicted in the Bible until they happen. Nevertheless what the Bible says will happen, will surely come to pass. Are you still blind? Are you still refusing to listen? Well, we must continue to warn people in spite of the fact that those who have warned the world of judgment to come have usually spoken to deaf ears. Noah was laughed at. The only people he could get into the ark were the people whom he could force into it— his own family. In that day children still obeyed their fathers. No doubt his sons thought their father was a “moss-back” or a “has-been” or something of the sort, bub they might well be thankful that he still had parental authority and they were obliged to go into the ark, even though the professors and preach ers of those days may have ridiculed them as they do us now. Remember, our Lord says, “As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be when the Son of Man cometh.” I may not have the persuasive power of Noah, but if you don’t believe what I am saying, go home and read your Bibles and then read the newspapers and see how the signs of the times are springing up like noxious weeds on every hand,— all pointing to the same thing, that this age is “ Biola Best Books” HeWho Wept Over Jerusalem The prophecy o f the “ Man o f Sorrows” as set forth in the very heart o f the wonder Messanic poem— Isaiah 53— enshrines the very doctrine o f substi tution as unfolded in both the Old and the New Testaments. One scholar says: ‘‘It looks as if it had been w rit ten beneath the cross o f Golgotha and was illu minated b y the heavenly brightness o f shebh limini ( ‘Sit Thou on My right hand’ ) .” Read The Servant of Jehovah Rev. world— not a voluntary peace— but such a peace as was imposed by the iron hand of the Ancient Roman Empire. But the greed and desire for conquest of the natural man is such that peace will pall upon this world dictator, so that there will be intervals of war as well as intervals of peace, until the last great struggle-—the battle of Armaged don. The late Lord Kitchener, who was a great student of the wars of antiquity, the wars of the present and the wars of the future, made a study of the battle field of Armageddon and made the positive assertion that a great battle was yet to be fought there. It is a fearful prospect which the Scripture opens up to us. God always tells us the truth, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, and nothing can avert the prophesied calamity unless there should be a universal allegiance to Him whom God hath sent. If the whole world were to be converted, then its doom might be averted as was the doom of Nineveh when they repented at the preaching of Jonah. But, judg ing from the amount of unbelief and indifference in the world today, there is not much prospect that it will steer into the right path at the last moment. It seems that, while the faith of the faithful is getting brighter, the doubts of the faithless are getting stronger. We believers have the assurance that we shall be kept out of this world tragedy. We have the promise of our Lord before He went away that He would go and prepare a place for us, and I do not think there are many who look for the Lord’s coming who have one shadow of doubt that they will be delivered from the Great Tribulation, but inasmuch as the love of Christ constraineth us, we shudder at the thought of the tragedy that is to come upon the world. All that is left for us to do is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, crucified and coming again, in order that we may persuade at least some to repent. If we can stir them up NOW to prepare to meet their God that is the greatest thing we can do. Warning of Coming Judgment I rejoice when I see in the signs of the times any fulfill ment of prophecy in a mild degree. I don’t want any one to be hurt, but when I read (as I did this morning, for in stance) of an earthquake in England, I am delighted. I say to myself, “That will make some people I know, think. They will be saying, ‘What, earthquakes in England! That is something most unusual. What does it mean?’ ” These preliminary warnings of the coming judgment, how merciful they are! How they remove the last excuse for our going on blindly to the things that are coming to pass! I believe that God will give u's many warnings of the com ing judgments and tribulation in order that everybody may have a chance to repent before the end comes. No one here can say that they have not been warned. Some of you have attended a great many of these meetings, and I do hope that some of you who came to scoff may remain to pray. Just bring your reasoning powers to bear upon the situa tion. Take, for instance, these earthquakes which have been happening with such repeated and alarming fre quency, so persistent, so widespread, that if they do not constitute a writing on the wall then I do not know what signs could be given. Look at the Jewish sign! No one can ignore the fact that Palestine has been liberated from the Turk and the Jews are returning to^their own land. People used to laugh at it and say that no Jews would ever return to Palestine; that all Jews lived in New York or London.
