2021 Shoosty Landscapes

Drawing on the Ipad glass is not as satisfying as drawing on paper. The glass is slippery and the results seem tight. I prefer watercolor paper and pencils. Without realizing it I have combined the two to come up with a new way of painting I call, “Vector Painting.” Finding inspiration was easy, The United States is choke-filled with places to visit. I started drawing with the pencils, softly at first, and more boldly in time. The results were hard to see. The watercolor pencil drawings are muted without water. Back at the van, I would touch a soft brush to water and open up the drawings discovering the composition as the saturation increased. The colors were always surprising because of the special pen- cils I was using. They were bold and bright. The watercolor painting was fine but I was going for something more polished. It wasn’t what I was trying to achieve. I was trying to make something iconic. I covered the whole thing with guache. Guache is an opaque acrylic. It allowed me to tease out the shapes from the painting. Once separated, I took a photo with my iPhone and air-dropped it into the Ipad. This technology is a miracle. Using the Apple pencil I copied the shapes and then filled them with pure digital colors, teasing out the results you are about to see. They are breathtaking. Once I found a system I liked I also took photos and brought them di- rectly into the Ipad. Then I made hundreds of shapes following the lines on the photo. It’s the iPad that makes this possible I would never take this amount of time sitting in front of a desktop machine. The Ipad is very relaxing to work with. You will soon recognize these pieces by their photographic qualities. All in all, it was a good year.
