MATT DONOVAN Reflecting on 30 Years of Memories as a Greyhound For three decades, Matt Donovan has been a constant presence behind the scenes of Greyhound Athletics at the University of Indianapolis. He spent that time building support for the program as well as building relationships. Known for his steady encouragement and deep belief in student-athletes, Donovan’s impact can be felt far beyond game days or fundraising milestones. He helped shape a culture where connection, generosity, and opportunity thrive. As he steps into retirement, we asked Donovan to reflect on the moments, memories, and people that defined his time at UIndy. What’s a moment with a student-athlete that has stayed with you long after it happened? There wasn’t just one moment—it was really the variety of relationships over the years. Sometimes you were mentoring students after their time as student-athletes. Sometimes it was just friendship and support. Other times, you were there to encourage them and help them recognize what they were accomplishing. At the heart of it, you were trying to support them in every way possible—not just as athletes, but as students and as people. That’s what always mattered most to me: helping them make the most of their experience and building relationships that lasted beyond campus. Looking back over 30 years, what’s one change at UIndy that still amazes you? When I arrived in 1994, there really wasn’t fundraising for athletics. Dave Huffman, Jim Bremner, and President Ben Lantz gave me the opportunity to put together a plan for what became the Greyhound Club.
