The great thinker, Herbert Spencer, phil osophized about himself, philosophized about this world, philosophized about everything; then in his dying moment asked that only one word might be cut on his tombstone,

and that word, “ Infelicissimus” —most un happy. If we as Christians today could not trust in a crucified, risen Christ, then “ we are of all men most miserable” (1 Cor. 15:19).—H. P ickering . 2 . Dear Miss Scott: I get so much help from the Query Cor ner. It is the first thing I read when T he K ing ' s B usiness arrives. Perhaps I appre ciate it and the whole magazine the more because I have very little Christian fellow ship in the community where I live. It seems especially hard to work in the office where I am. I am the only Christian, and some of the workers there ridicule religion and laugh at me because I am a Christian. I am the only girl in the office who does not smoke and drink. It is so hard that I sometimes am tempted to give up and do as the rest of them do. I wanted to ask your advice about giving up my job and trying to find another where things would be bet ter. I should like to be a missionary but have responsibilities that keep me at home and make it necessary for me to work. Sincerely, A W orking G irl . My dear “ Working Girl” : Have you ever thought that the Lord may be calling you to be a missionary in that office? He chooses the field where He wants us to labor. If He were to send you to a heathen land, you would expect to face ridicule and worse. You might be in a place where you were the only Christian, and you would expect the Lord to keep you victorious there in spite of the surround ings. You would expect to set standards instead of following those of the people about you. Why not learn to think of your office as your mission field where you are to live a victorious life for Christ? Learn to “ endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Tim. 2:3). “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Eph. 6:10). Think of the “cloud of witnesses” of Hebrews 11 (cf. Heb. 12:1); and, remembering how they were willing to endure even unto death for Christ’s sake, determine to “ run with patience the race” that is set before you. It is easy to run away from difficulty. When you do, you lose the victory God has purposed for your own spiritual growth. Too, you lose the opportunity to witness

for Him where a testimony is especially needed. Why should we expect to sacri fice, suffer, and endure hardness for Christ if we should be called to the mission field, and yet expect to have everything pleasant and easy if we are called to be His wit nesses in the business world at home? Read 1 Peter 3 :8-17. Rejoice that He counts you worthy to suffer for His sake. Buy up your opportunity by living such a happy, Spirit-filled life that those work ing with you may be made hungry to know what you have and Whom you serve. public power” that have so recently been brought into existence. That shackle-mak ing “ instruments of public power” are hang ing on convenient pegs within the tents of of the world’s last-remaining sons of free dom, is certainly disconcerting, especially when the sons of freedom almost worship those who have created shackle-making instruments. Thus America seems to be caught in the world’s now rapid drift unto that day when the words shall be fulfilled: “ No man might buy or sell,,save he that had the mark [of the beast]” (Rev. 13:17), and “ as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed” (Rev. 13:15). This lordship of single “ Government,” placing unlimited power in the hands of one man, is already shackling men, body and soul, shedding their blood at will, in some of the mightiest nations of the earth. And the very nations that lie prone beneath the despotic heels of dictators interpreted our national election as an indorsement of their own form of government! On the morning after our recent political debacle, the Berlin Tageblatt significantly asked: “ Is this a democratic election? Or is it the eruption of the fuehrer [Hitlerian] idea within the democratic system—achieved by democratic methods?” The Fascist, Virginio Gayda, authoritative writer for the Rome | THE NATIONAL ELECTION [ Continued front page 50]
