How easy, how spontaneous, how delight ful, this heavenly way of holiness! Surely it is a “ highway,” and not the low way of man’s vain and fruitless mortification. It is God’s great elevated railway, sweeping over the heads of the struggling throngs who toil along the lower pavement, when they might be borne along on the ascension pathway by His own almighty impulse. It is God’s great elevator, carrying us up to the higher chambers of His palace without our laborious efforts, while others struggle up the winding stair and faint by the way. — B . M c C a ll B arbour . MARCH 19 Divine Union “ A t that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and 1 in you’’ (John 14:20). May God Himself work in us the longing desire for a personal knowledge of His pres ence in our lives, a conscious knowledge of our union with Him. Before you go further will you not bow and tell Him that you are now willing to be separated from those binding, hindering things and let Him work in you the consciousness of the reality of this union with Christ Jesus? Bow before Him now and thank Him that you are united to Christ Jesus. Thank Him that His Word is true; that at this moment you are complete in Him; that you now lack nothing because you are united with the Lord . . . Rejoice in it, for of God are ye in Christ Jesus!— L . L . L egters . MARCH 20 Seeking Him Early “ 0 God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee” (Psa. 63:1). Face the work of every day with the influence of a few, thoughtful, quiet mo ments with your own heart and God. Do not meet with other people, even those of your own home, until you have first met the great and honored Companion of your life—Jesus Christ. Meet Him alone. Meet Him regularly. Meet Him with His open Book of counsel before you, and face the regular and irregular duties of each day with the influence of His Personality defi nitely controlling your every act. — J ohn T im othy S tone . "They which receive abundance of grace • . . shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:17). The glorious triumph and the song— The gifts of God to me belong! The place of honor is my right, Partaker with the saints in light. O crowning glory of the cross! 0 wondrous gain from all my loss. 1 come, and lo! all things are mine— Yea! all things in the life divine. All things are mine—not far away, MARCH 21 Reigning in Life

MARCH 22 Heaven’s Highest Theme

“ Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Rev. 1:5). When we turn from the Epistles to the last book of the Bible, where John sees within the veil and penetrates into the mys teries of the life beyond, we mark how often he extols the precious blood. It is in Christ’s own blood that we are washed from our sins. We are redeemed unto God by His blood. The unnumbered multitude which John sees before the throne of God and of the Lamb, clothed in white, and carrying the palms of victory, have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb . . . All heaven raises its highest notes of praise when the theme is the Lamb who was slain.—G. H. L u n n . “ O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who de sire to fear thy name” (Neh. 1:11). Luther’s praying was thus described by a correspondent of Melancthon’s: “ I can not enough admire the extraordinary cheer fulness, constancy, faith, and hope of the man in these trying times. He constantly feeds these gracious affections by a very diligent study of the Word of God. Then not a day passes in which he does not em ploy in prayer at least three of his very best hours. Once I happened to hear him at prayer. Gracious God ! What spirit and what faith is there in his expressions! He petitions God with as much reverence as if he were in the divine presence, and yet with as firm a hope and confidence as he would MARCH 23 Confident Praying

Hereafter—here and now, today! On earth I reign in life by One, Complete, accepted, in God’s Son.

— E dith H ickm an D ivall . A life marked by daily answer to prayer is proof of true abiding in Christ.— A ndrew M urray .
