less than they are entitled to from their state pension. This issue was formed by periods of inaccurate recording of HRP on National Insurance (NI) records and DWP poorly communicating how many NI qualifying years women need for a full state pension age.
The ombudsman said:
“They [women] told us that DWP’s and the Independent Case Examiner’s (ICE) handling of their complaints about these issues had a negative effect on their emotional well-being. We have received a significant number of similar complaints since we first proposed to investigate. Our review of the complaints shows that they relate to the same key issues. For that reason, we are not accepting any new complaints about these issues at present.”
Six samples of complaints with a range of issues, are being investigated by the ombudsman.
Employers should be aware of the above inaccuracies and how they may apply to their employees. You can read more on the topic of state pension on the GOV.UK site.

DWP automatic enrolment 2023/24 review Published: 27 January 2023 Emailed: 1 February 2023
Each year, the Department for Work and Pension (DWP) releases an analysis and review of the earnings trigger and Qualifying bands for automatic enrolment.
Within the report are the proposed thresholds for the tax year. The proposed thresholds, along with the current thresholds for reference, are as follows:
Lower limit qualifying earnings band
Upper limit qualifying earnings band
Trigger
Current (2022/23)
£10,000
£6,240
£50,270
Proposed (2023/24)
£10,000
£6,240
£50,270
As we can see, all thresholds are to be frozen for the year. Reasons cited for this are to represent a real terms reduction (factoring inflation) of the thresholds, while not reducing them to such a point that it impacts day-to-day needs of income.
Within the report, the government reaffirmed its commitment to the 2017 Review of Automatic Enrolment, which set out an intention to remove the Lower Earnings Limit by mid 2020’s.
Past reviews are also available to view.
