A new consultation has been published, which is seeking feedback on new legislation regarding the protection of wages paid to seafarers. The new laws would mean that, when in UK waters, seafarers would be paid an equivalent to, at least, the national minimum wage (NMW). The CIPP’s policy team will be responding to the consultation, and wants to in clude feedback from members and the wider payroll community, so has published a new Quick Poll on the News Online page to gather your opinions. This is your opport unity to have your say, and to shape the content of the CIPP’s official consultation response.
The Quick Poll should take less than a minute to respond to, and we would like to thank you in advance for your participation.
Similarly, the documents released in relation to the Queen’s speech, held on 10 May 2022, confirmed a new Harbours (Seafarers’ Remuneration) Bill. This will aim to deter organisations from carrying out actions like P&O Ferries, who sacked hundreds of workers to replace them with cheaper agency workers.

QuickPoll Results – Payroll Service Providers – How many clients per team member?
Published: 25 May 2022 Emailed: 25 May 2022
This QuickPoll was intended to highlight the workload and hard work of payroll professionals in bureaux and accountancy practices or any business providing payroll services to clients.
Over 79% of respondents who have a fixed allocation said they deal with over 20 clients per team member, 39% of which responded with over 100 clients per team member.
These findings are very interesting, as they give us an insight into how much work payroll professionals are doing and how busy the industry is.
It should be note d that the number of clients isn’t the only factor to consider, and further research could be done on how big the clients are on average or how many payslips each team member is administering.
