Professional organisations can apply for approval for tax relief using form P356.

The CIPP appears on list 3, which means that any self-funding members can claim tax relief on their membership fees. The CIPP is listed under ‘P’ under the title ‘Payroll Professionals Chartered Institute of (new tit le from 10 November 2010 formerly Institute of Payroll Professionals)’.

November additions to List 3 Published: 7 December 2022 Emailed: 7 December 2022

‘List 3’ is published by HM Revenue and Customs detailing the professional organisations that are eligible for tax relief on membership fees.

Names are regularly added to the list so it is a good idea to keep updated.

In November the following organisations were added or amended:

• ‘ Association of Clinical Psychologists ’ – with effect from 6 April 2021 • ‘ Association for Information Services ’ – with effect from 6 April 2022 • ‘ Association for Jewish Studies ’ – with effect from 6 April 2022 • ‘ Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors ’ – with effect from 6 April 2022. • ‘ Professional Sales Leadership Alliance Ltd ’ has been renamed to the ‘ Institute of Professionals Sales ’ • ‘ Veterinary Practice Management Association ’ has been renamed to the ‘ Veterinary Management Group ’ • ‘ British Association for Dramatherapists ’ has been renamed to ' British Association of Dramatherapists ’ • ‘ British Association of Communicators in Business ’ has been renamed to ' Institute of Internal Communication ’ • 'Institute of Environmental Sciences' has been renamed to 'Institution of Environmental Sciences'.

HMRC Update: Professional bodies and learned societies approved for tax relief (list 3)

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has detailed how to apply to be included on the professional bodies and learned societies approved for tax relief list (list 3) using the Secure Data Exchange Service (SDES).

Professional bodies seeking the approval, can now send a completed P356 application form using the SDES. Applications sent by post take longer to process, therefore HMRC recommends submitting the form via the SDES. To use the platform, you need to:
