Non-levy employer reservation levels reset 1 June 2022 Published: 7 June 2022 Emailed: 8 June 2022
On 1 June 2022 all non-levy paying employer reservation levels will reset back to 0. This will enable those employers to make up to 10 reservations securing apprenticeship funding. Flexi-job apprenticeship agencies can make up to 35.
Any reservations made before 1 June 2022 can be converted into starts within the reservation period and will not count towards the number made in the 2022-23 period.
Reservations give employers who do not pay the apprenticeship levy an opportunity to gain government funding for apprenticeship training. However, the reservations may be paused at any time for the government to ensure the scheme is remains affordable to them.
The help article also contains a video detailing the process of reservations.

Coronavirus support scheme abuse investigations continue Published: 7 June 2022 Emailed: 8 June 2022
The boss of a takeaway in Manchester has been banned from holding a director position for 7 years after they were found to have wrongly claimed £50,000 from support schemes. £30,000 of this was for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, the remaining £20,000 from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). The company, New York Krispy Fried Chicken Limited, went into liquidation in November 2020, causing the insolvency service to conduct an investigation. Investigators found the company to not have maintained adequate records to support the claims made against the CJRS. The shop was not eligible for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme as it did not have any seating, a factor of eligibility at the time. Furthermore, the business failed to register for VAT when it was required to do so, investigators could not determine the amount of unpaid tax owed.

Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy Committee launches inquiry into UK labour market

The labour market inquiry aims to identify economic and labour trends as part of a broader inquiry on economic growth and recovery following the pandemic. The committee wants to gather information from experts / unions / businesses, so it can investigate challenges faced by workers and employers, and how they can be supported. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released figures earlier this year showing that there are currently more job vacancies than people to fill them. An aging population and changes in migration have affected the workforce, and the role of technology, legislation and government support is vital to removing the skills and worker shortages.
The call for evidence focuses on five areas:
