Published: 17 August 2022 Emailed: 24 August 2022
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has joined up with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to produ ce an experimental monthly report. The report explores Pay As You Earn (PAYE) and Real Time Information (RTI) data to estimate the number of paid employees, earnings and employment data across the UK.
Here are some of the key take aways from the report:
• Number of payrolled employees rose by 2.9% year-on-year, this means a rise of 847,000 employees • All age groups saw increases in number of payrolled employees, employees under 25 saw an increase of 220,000 • Food and service activities saw the largest sector increase at 140,000 • Early estimates indicate a 6.6% increase in median monthly pay for employees compared to July last year • Median monthly pay has increased 13.4% since February 2020, the last month of data before coronavirus related turbulence. These trends seem to be working their way back to pre- pandemic levels and restoring some normality to the UK’s employment landscape. But let’s not forget the unsung heroes, you, the payroll professional (make sure to check out the September issue of Professional magazine for more celebration like this). Without the hard work of which, we would not have the data to analyse and the nations workforce would not be paid. Also on the horizon for Payroll professionals, National Payroll Week. Running from 5 – 9 September, National Payroll Week is a celebration of all the hard work you do. See what events are on, and how you can get involved on our website.
