A SUPPLIER OF INDUSTRY-LEADING PRODUCTS AND SOLUTIONS, PRECISION CABLES IS EXCITED TO PLAY ITS PART IN BUILDING A MORE AGILE, RESILIENT AND DECARBONISED ELECTRICITY SYSTEM… Precision Cables welcomes new Private Wires Policy

The Irish Government’s recently- published Private Wires Policy, a transformative reform opening up major new opportunities in the energy

infrastructure market, has been welcomed by Precision Cables. Announced in July 2025 by the

Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, the policy allows private parties, including renewable generators, storage providers and large consumers, to build direct electrical connections (private wires) between generators and users in certain circumstances. This shift marks a significant departure from the previous model, under which only ESB Networks could own private lines between generators and electricity customers.

The new policy enables: • Direct connection between a renewable generator (eg a

and distributed energy resources) and supporting greater renewable adoption. Reliable cable infrastructure is the plumbing of the energy transition, enabling efficient delivery of power from generation through to consumption. Cathal Grace, Sales Director at Precision Cables, says, “This policy change is a game changer for the infrastructure sector in Ireland. At Precision Cables, we’re ready to partner with developers, utilities and large energy users to deliver the cable systems that make these private-wire connections possible. “It’s brilliant to see the Government remove long-standing barriers to investment, and we believe the new freedoms will accelerate deployment of renewables, battery storage and smart charging infrastructure. We’re excited to play our part in building a more agile, resilient and decarbonised electricity system.” For business users, the option to secure a direct supply from a renewable generator or storage facility can mean lower electricity costs, greater control over energy sourcing, reduced exposure

to grid constraints and improved sustainability credentials. For investors and developers, the ability to build private lines opens up new project designs and business models that were previously infeasible. For Precision Cables, as more private wire projects come online, they will require robust cable infrastructure capable of handling higher loads, supporting hybrid models and meeting demanding reliability and safety standards. The business is well positioned to supply the full spectrum of cables, accessories and installation services needed to underpin these developments. The policy also strengthens Ireland’s attractiveness for digital-economy investment, including data centres, EVs and distributed energy resources. The ability to deliver private wires helps avoid grid bottlenecks and delays. wind or solar farm) and an industrial user, bypassing the central grid when it is more efficient • Sharing of a grid connection between different generators or battery installations to unlock efficiencies • Private lines for on-street EV charging solutions • Self-suppliers to provide electricity to a neighbouring customer (provided no third-party land is crossed) As a company specialising in high- quality cable systems and infrastructure solutions, Precision Cables views the policy as unlocking new markets, increasing demand for advanced cable technologies and accelerating Ireland’s transition to a more decentralised, resilient energy system. The policy is expected to ‘drive digital growth in the Irish economy’ by easing pressure on the national grid, accommodating surging demand (especially from data centres, EVs
