NORTHERN REGIONAL COLLEGE BALLYMENA PROJECT PROFILE

THE NEW CAMPUS REQUIRED A HIGH LEVEL OF END-USER INTEGRATION FOR SPECIALIST PLANT ITEMS SUPPORTING TRAINING IN MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL AND CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING… NUGENT DELIVERS A COMPLEX MEP PACKAGE AT NRC BALLYMENA

A complex and challenging MEP package of works has been successfully delivered by NUGENT at NRC’s new £55m campus in Ballymena. Partnering again with main contractor Heron Bros, having previously completed the NRC Causeway Campus together in summer 2024, the new Ballymena college was handed over in July 2025. Representing a £55m investment by the Department for Education, the new NRC Ballymena is a landmark building for the town and wider area and will cater to an annual 1,800 students. Consolidating three old campuses into a single modern facility, works commenced in 2022. The new 16,800sqm site features two multi-storey blocks linked by a three-storey atrium with single-storey workshops running the length of the site and a single-storey standalone sports building. Encompassing purpose-built facilities

for vocational, technical and professional education including a 5,000sqm Advanced Technologies Department, the campus provides specialist training in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical and construction engineering. A unique project, it required a high level of innovation and end-user integration for specialist plant items in student workshops, from compressed air and dust extraction to sub breakers for electrical testing rigs. Working to a tight timeframe to ensure the campus was ready for the new school year in September 2025, NUGENT completed all electrical services including main switchgear and intelligent metering, power and lighting, generator installation and photovoltaics. Also included were audio visual and performing arts lighting, UPS and structured cabling, digital signage, integrated fire and security systems, and
