A focus on high-quality workmanship, technical expertise and forging lasting partnerships with clients and contractors has paid dividends for Irwin M&E Ltd. Established in 1995 as a small electrical contractor, the thriving business now supplies a full range of mechanical, electrical, energy and renewables installation and maintenance services to clients throughout the UK and Ireland. Employing a team of over 300 across its headquarters in Co Armagh and offices in Belfast and Derry/Londonderry, Irwin M&E is projected to reach turnover in excess of £70m in the current financial year. To mark its 30th anniversary, the business has invested £2m in a new head office aimed at providing a comfortable working environment to enhance team morale and collaboration. The new base also serves as a showcase for Irwin M&E’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, with the installation of a heat pump and solar PV set to reduce its emissions by as much as 80%. Richard Megarity, Operations Director, says,
“Environmental responsibility is central to our strategy, and our aim is for the business to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. “We have also invested £350,000 in digital technology including AI capabilities and a new ERP system to boost efficiency throughout our operations.” Highlighting the company’s support for internal progression, Richard joined the business in 2003 as an apprentice electrician before progressing to operations director in 2010 and subsequently taking on ownership alongside Managing Director Keith Stewart. The business changed its name to Irwin M&E to mark its expansion into mechanical services in 2016, and now operates three divisions, Maintenance & Compliance, Design & Build and Energy & Renewables. Over the last three decades, it has steadily grown its presence in the education, healthcare, government, commercial and industrial sectors across the UK and Ireland. “We now operate a fleet of more than 160 vehicles providing planned and reactive Maintenance & Compliance services to clients,” says Richard, “with safety a key
priority of every installation completed by Irwin M&E. “Our Design & Build division supplies integrated M&E services for new-build and refurbishment projects across hospital, office, residential and student accommodation projects of all sizes, UK- wide. “And our burgeoning Energy & Renewables division offers EV infrastructure, solar PV and energy monitoring solutions for public and private sector clients.” Driving Irwin M&E’s success is its strong, dedicated team, as well as a focus on developing long-term partnerships with clients. “Our core values are loyalty, safety, innovation and success,” says Richard. “Our growth over the last 30 years has been propelled by a flexible response to the needs of our clients and the wider marketplace. “Our aim over the coming decades is to continue to embrace innovation, enhance our workmanship, efficiency and skills, and nurture strategic partnerships.”
