Irwin M&E targets continued growth Projected to increase its turnover from £55m to over £70m in the current financial year, Irwin M&E has ambitious plans to continue this growth. Outlined in its corporate strategic plan, the company is aiming to reach ambitious targets through sustainable growth propelled by expansion into new markets, and the launch of a new Irwin Training Academy to enhance the skillset of new and existing staff. The company is already expanding its reach across the UK and Ireland, having recently completed a new education campus for Barnfield College and the first phase of a terminal extension at Leeds Bradford Airport. An impressive pipeline of projects includes the Stratford Mill residential development in London, and a four-year maintenance contract covering over 150 crown-owned buildings throughout the northern region of Northern Ireland.
Supporting its people, community and the environment is embedded in the ethos of Irwin M&E as it celebrates 30 years in business. The successful M&E contractor prides itself on being an ethical business with a positive impact on its community, as both a significant employer supporting the regional economy and through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Steadily creating new jobs alongside its sustained growth over the last three decades, Irwin M&E now employs more than 300 people across three sites in NI. Richard Megarity, Operations Director, says, “Attracting, developing and retaining top talent is an industry-wide challenge, which we have addressed by appointing a talent acquisition role. “Investing in our new HQ furthers our strategy of supporting talent by fostering a positive culture and working environment and ensuring we stay at the forefront of the industry with a skilled and motivated team.
“We operate a successful apprenticeship scheme, currently totalling around 50 apprentices, as well as partnering with Ulster University to upskill placement students.” In terms of CSR, financial support is provided through a Beyond the Tools bursary for activities promoting health, wellbeing and community spirit including sponsorship of local sports teams and events. The team is also invited to select a Charity of the Year by popular vote. As Irwin M&E celebrates its 30th anniversary, the company is investing in its people, technology and sustainability, with environmental responsibility central to its strategy. “Looking forward, we will continue to invest in new technologies and sustainable solutions to boost efficiency and future- proof our company,” says Richard. “As part of our recent investment in the Portadown HQ, we are embracing digital technology aimed at improving delivery, collaboration and the overall client experience.”
