Belfast abseil raises £7,265 for Electrical Industries Charity EIC MANAGING DIRECTOR JESS VAILIMA JOINED REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE LOCAL ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY ABSEILING DOWN THE EUROPA HOTEL IN BELFAST ON OCTOBER 12…
Supporters of the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) have taken part in an abseil down Belfast’s Europa Hotel on October 12 to raise vital funds for the charity. Raising an impressive £7,265, participants included EIC Managing Director Jess Vailima, who has also completed challenges in England, Scotland and Wales as part of a year of fundraising events marking EIC’s 120th anniversary. EIC is aiming to raise £120,000 throughout the year, to provide vital lifelines to individuals and families facing tough times including financial support, counselling, mental health support or education and training. Other activities have included running the London Marathon, conquering Snowden in the Sea to Summit Challenge and ziplining over North Wales on the fastest zipline in the world, as well as walking 14 miles in the Glasgow Kiltwalk and 21 miles in the Thames Path Challenge. With just two months to go, the EIC invites supporters to take on creative
fundraising challenges or donate directly to help colleagues in need and secure the charity’s legacy for the future. “These challenges bring people together, create awareness and raise vital funds for a cause that really matters. Seeing the impact firsthand keeps me motivated,” said Jess. “There are so many ways to get involved. You can join the challenge, volunteer your time or support through fundraising and donations. Even sharing our message helps spread awareness and makes a big difference.” Founded in 1905, EIC supports those in need within the electrical and energy industries, providing financial assistance, emotional support and invaluable resources. With continued support, the charity is aiming to expand its reach, empower more lives and champion positive change across its industries. Members of the electrical and energy industries are invited to get involved through fundraising, volunteering or spreading awareness, either through their own initiatives or by supporting
organised EIC events. EIC is always looking for new members and new committees to help showcase and generate awareness of the charity and its services and events. Its regional committees play a crucial role in supporting and advancing fundraising efforts within a specific geographic area. The NI Committee of EIC includes: • Karen McAvoy, Chair (Ireland’s Electrical Magazine) • Alfie Watterson (ECA) • Duncan Orr (Aico) • Gareth Howes (Solutions) • Jake Keyworth (Edmundson Electrical Ltd) • Mervyn Knox (Hager Northern Ireland) • Tommy Barrett (City Electrical Factors NI) • John Auld (WS Mercer Belfast).
