GONE SERIES & RIOT OF LIBERT Y Whatshisname
Since making his debut at Castle Fine Art in September 2021, Whatshisname has been a firm favourite with our collectors. He returns in 2022 with some iconic new additions to his popular Gone series and features an array of much-loved characters, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Bart and Lisa Simpson, Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet, and Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Whatshisname told us: “It’s important to me to remember old things and be nostalgic about them, because they are a part of our lives and influence our next steps: that’s how we got where we are today. It’s showing our childhood heroes reaching out to us with an extended hand and saying, “Hello, I’m still here, do you remember me?”. Or if those are fading memories, they are saying goodbye.” Each of the characters reflects an important part of Whatshisname’s childhood, whether it was the special effects of Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story inspiring him to pursue a career in 3D graphics and animation, or the affectionate sibling rivalry between Bart and Lisa Simpson echoing his own relationship with his brother. The artist adds: “They taught us valuable lessons about life, love and friendship. The joy, happiness and good times we had will stay with me forever.”
