HERRINGBONE & BEERS A SMASHING HIT

As soon as guests walked through the doors of our Newcastle Showroom, they were in for a lively night. Greeted by a glass of smooth craft beer, a motley group of builders, installers and shop fitters joined us for an evening dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge – just how to install the perfect herringbone timber floor. To kick off the night, local Cattleyard Brewing Co, presented an insightful look into the making of craft beer. With hardly a glass staying empty for too long, the good vibes and camaraderie were flowing just as quickly as the beers were being drunk and the satay chicken devoured. The showcase event for the night was delivered by the knowledgeable Shane Jones from Great Southern Floors. What followed Shane’s demonstration was a head-on-head (or should that be diagonal-on-diagonal?) herringbone timber installation competition. After a frantic race to the finish, the title of ‘Herringbone Champion’ was taken out by Greg Baker from BRW Constructions. Although considering the happy faces and full stomachs, we doubt there were any losers among us.

MAKING DESIGN FUN

At Havwoods, we’re committed to creating trends. The same ethos applies to our events. Firmly cementing its status as the need-to-know flooring supplier in town, our Newcastle Showroom welcomed several architects and designers to our “Playscape: Creative Thinking and the Design Process” event. Hosted alongside Polytec and the Hunter Design School, guests were divided into groups and asked to imagine a playground with daring play elements; a place where kids were awe-struck and challenged to overcome fear and conquer defeat. Attendees were provided with all the creative elements including markers, paper, Havwoods wooden tangram and block samples as well as two key words that would inform the theme of their playground. The experience was fun and encouraged people to interact with each other while creating something challenging and confronting. While difficult to choose an overall winner, it was the green team that proved victorious with their interesting take on a ‘Slightly Dangerous’ playscape.
