Around 34,000 students, 1,500 teachers and 2,600 parents from 300 schools attended WorldSkills Ireland at RDS Simmonscourt over September 25-27. WorldSkills Ireland aims to inspire and motivate young people to explore diverse career options, emphasising the significant role that skills and apprenticeships play in achieving professional success. The event includes interactive exhibits, demonstrations and national skills competitions across a range of trades including plumbing and heating. A shift in students’ attitudes over the past three years, with more being receptive to pursuing apprenticeships or skills-based careers, has been reported by 77% of members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (ISG) in a new survey. The survey by IGC and WorldSkills Ireland 2024 found family influence remains the top factor in how students make career choices (87%) followed by pursuing interests/passions (79%) and potential earning capacity (64%). Grant has revealed that its next- generation Aerona R290 air-to-water heat pump will be available to order this autumn. To coincide with the launch of this new heat pump technology, Grant has diversified its education offering for plumbers, installers, engineers, architects and local authorities. Further additions have been made to its popular heat pump course, which can be accessed via its onsite Training Academy and online eLearning Academy. Delegates who attend this course for the remainder of this year, and into 2025, will leave fully educated on the new heat pump as well as how to ensure it’s correctly installed as part of a fully-integrated Grant heating system.
