DUBLIN WASTEWATER PROJECT SCOOPS GLOBAL INFRASTRUCTURE AWARD

ALBION INSTANT WIN PROMOTION RETURNS FOR PLUMBING AND HEATING INSTALLERS

An Irish engineering project to remove and recover phosphorus from treated wastewater for use as agricultural fertiliser has won a major global infrastructure engineering award. The Phosphorus Fixation & Recovery Facility (P Fix) was developed for Uisce Éireann as part of the ongoing upgrade of the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dublin. P Fix was one of three winners named by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers alongside the Réseau Express Métropolitain in Canada and Viaduct Quanzhou Bay Sea-crossing Bridge in China.

P Fix involves the removal of phosphorus from treated wastewater, to enhance the water quality in Dublin Bay, and its conversion to a pelletised product for potential reuse in a specified phosphorus fixation reactor. The facility is the first of its kind in Ireland and the largest of its kind in Europe. The project was commissioned in 2023 by Uisce Éireann as part of the €500m upgrade of the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant, with partners in the 3JV engineering consortium developing the project including Dublin-based TJ O’Connor & Associates. www.ringsendwwtpupgrade.ie
