WORK & LIFE It’s all about balance. Balance is the key for a healthy mind. M BALANCING

ANY YOUNG PROFESSIONALS FIND IT difficult to maintain a sense of balance in their lives. Balance is difficult to achieve, from job to family time to creating time for ourselves, and no one-size-fits-all solution exists. Something that works now may not work in a month. Instead, consider your purpose to be figuring out what works right now and not being scared to tweak it. I understand that change can be frightening, but learning to recognize when changes are required and adapting to them can be quite liberating. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR OFFICE TIME When you’re at work, make an effort to be mentally present 90% of the time. It’s very hard to remain completely focused all of the time, yet the more focused you are at work, the more you can do. The more work you

get done outside of work hours, the less stressed you will be. Learn to properly manage your time at work, and you’ll have more time to focus on other aspects of your life. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR LUNCH BREAK Lunch is your chance to recharge in the midst of the day, to think about something other than work. Utilize it to your benefit! Pick up a book you’ve been meaning to read, phone a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while, or squeeze in a brief workout. Simply do something unrelated to your job. Make sure it’s something you enjoy because this will help you refuel. SET ASIDE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF While focusing on oneself may make you feel selfish, it is something that everyone requires in the long run. A better mindset is created by taking time

away from everything and focusing on something that is solely for you. Finding time to focus on yourself, whether it’s on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, is critical. WHEN A CHANGE IS NECESSARY, PAY ATTENTION You can strive to come up with the perfect strategy to balance everything, but once you implement it, you may find that it just does not work. When you notice something isn’t working, don’t waste time trying to fix it. Instead, concentrate on getting used to something that works. You need to discover a flow when trying to strike a balance between work and life. It will take a lot of trial and error to figure things out, but once you do, your life will flow much more easily. Always remember to enjoy the present, but keep an eye out for when things start to turn a little bumpy. When they do, seek for ways to make changes. EC EC
